Through my past experiences, I have been fortunate to learn life skills including decision making, communicating, negotiating, etc., from older adults. Several years ago, I had the opportunity to host Jeremiah Castille as a guest speaker at the Southern Regional Conference for Learning in Retirement held by OLLI at the University of Alabama. He spoke about his mom. The message was that older people know that they are old, they know they are eventually going to die- as we all are- BUT from the voice and advice of Jeremiah Castille’s mom “Finish Strong!” Everyone deserves the opportunity to finish strong. I believe in that advice and I too am going to finish strong by helping others do the same.
